1. Mexico City
Stay
About the destination: Mexico City is a vivid metropolis and cosmopolitan city situated on a plain in the central highlands at an altitude of 2, 286 metres. It is the capital city of Mexico, and the largest city in North America by population. Spanish administrative buildings and private houses in the heart of the city have replaced the temples of ancient Mexico and has resulted in a synthesis of both old and new architectural styles. Located at the Plaza de la Constitución, in the Historic Downtown, the Catedral Metropolitana is the country's largest cathedral and its construction took 250 years. The lower section is quite plain but the upper section is of Baroque and Neo-Classical design. It contains many altars and the main altar is made from solid gold. An elevator ascends the Torre Latino America, an earthquake-proof tower that was built in 1958. A viewing platform provides a wonderful panoramic view that includes the Palacio de Bellas Artes, with its orange and yellow dome, and the Juárez Monument. Of course a visit to Mexico DF would be incomplete without the Mariachi music. Go to the Plaza Garibaldi in the evening, and enjoy the Mariachi music.Located 50 kilometres from Mexico D.F. are the ancient remains of Teotihuacan that was once a centre of trade, art and ritual ceremonies. Its Sun Pyramid is one of the greatest building achievements of ancient times and it is considered by one of the most important cultural centres of mankind. The city's fascinating history is reflected in both its art and architecture with age old charm, Indian roots and elegant buildings. For surprises, sights and history galore, Mexico D.F. definitely deserves a visit.

2. San Miguel de Allende
Stay
About the destination: San Miguel de Allende, nestled in the heart of Mexico’s central highlands, is a colonial gem where cobblestone streets, pastel façades, and towering church spires create a postcard-perfect skyline. At its center stands the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, a neo-Gothic pink stone church that glows at sunrise and sunset. Around it, El Jardín (the main square) is the city’s social living room, filled with mariachis, balloon vendors, and locals chatting on wrought-iron benches beneath manicured laurel trees. Beyond its picture-perfect charm, San Miguel is a cultural powerhouse. The city is home to numerous art galleries, design boutiques, and workshops where you can meet local artisans crafting everything from intricate paper maché to handwoven textiles. Don’t miss Fábrica La Aurora, a former textile factory transformed into a creative hub, with contemporary art, sculpture, and antiques all housed under one industrial-chic roof. Throughout the year, festivals like the San Miguel Writers’ Conference and Día de los Muertos celebrations fill the streets with color, music, and international visitors. Food lovers will find plenty to savor, from traditional street snacks to refined farm-to-table cuisine. Sample tacos al pastor, churros, and corn on the cob from street stalls, then book a table at a rooftop restaurant for inventive Mexican dishes with panoramic views of the historic center. The surrounding countryside is dotted with vineyards and small-batch distilleries, making wine and mezcal tastings an easy day trip. Don’t forget to try local specialties such as enchiladas mineras, a regional dish harking back to the area’s mining days. Part of San Miguel’s magic lies just outside the city. Natural hot springs invite you to soak in mineral-rich waters, ideal after a day of walking its hilly streets. Nearby, you can explore colonial haciendas, ride horseback through semi-desert landscapes, or hike around the El Charco del Ingenio botanical garden, a protected canyon showcasing cacti and native flora. Whether you’re drawn by art, architecture, gastronomy, or simply the laid-back pace of life, San Miguel de Allende offers an intimate glimpse into Mexico’s past and a vibrant, creative present.

3. Guadalajara, Jalisco
Stay
About the destination: Guadalajara is the capital city of the central state of Jalisco in Mexico. It's also the second largest city in the country and considered a colonial city, although much of its architecture dates from the independence period. The city is famous for being the birthplace of the famous Mariachis, and it is the perfect place to find some of the best Mexican traditional handmade items. The town of Tequila is minutes away, and is a must visit when visiting Guadalajara, to taste and learn about the world famous Mexican drink Tequila. The historic city is a magical place full of traditional architecture and art, with trendy shops and restaurants. One of the best artistic treasures in Guadalajara are the José Clemente Orozco's impressive frescos, located in the Palacio de Gobierno, the Instituto de Cabanas and inside the Cathedral. The Cathedral, one of Guadalajara's main symbols, is a very imposing mixture of architectural styles, with the lower parts of it dating back to as early as 1571. There is a wide open plaza area in front of it, perfect to rest one’s feet. Guadalajara, called often the pearl of the west, it's a big and fascinating city with a beautiful and interesting contrast of the historic and the modern. It is the perfect destination for tourist that are looking to visit a festive and traditional Mexican city that has all the luxuries and size of a big city, without losing the traditional Mexican touch.
